What Law Governs Work Hours in Colombia?
In Colombia, work hours are regulated by Law 2101 of 2021 and the Colombian Labor Code (Código Sustantivo del Trabajo). These rules define the maximum weekly working hours, daily schedules, rest periods, and overtime.
What Are the Working Hours in Colombia?
In Colombia, standard working hours are gradually being reduced. The maximum weekly hours are as follows as per Colombian Labor Laws:
- Until July 14, 2024: 48 hours per week
- From July 15, 2024: 46 hours per week
- From July 15, 2025: 44 hours per week
- From July 15, 2026: 42 hours per week
Employees are entitled to at least one mandatory rest day, usually Sunday. Daily hours can be arranged between 4 and 9 hours per day, split into at least two parts with a rest period in between (which is not counted as work time).
How Much Is the Minimum Pay in Colombia?
As of January 1, 2025, the national minimum wage in Colombia is COP 1,423,500 per month. Employees also receive a transportation allowance of COP 200,000 per month, bringing the total minimum monthly pay to COP 1,623,500.
