Taiwan’s 2026 minimum wage set at NT$29,500 per month

The minimum monthly wage in Taiwan is set to increase to NT$29,500 (US$967) from NT$28,000 (US$918) starting January 1, 2026, marking the 10th consecutive annual increase, as reported by Focus Taiwan.
The minimum hourly wage will also increase by 3.2%, from NT$190 (US$6.23) to NT$196 (US$6.42).
The adjustment is expected to benefit nearly 2.47 million workers nationwide, including 1.74 million monthly-wage employees and 730,000 hourly-wage workers, according to the Ministry of Labor (MOL) Taiwan.
The wage adjustment was determined after a review by the Minimum Wage Deliberation Committee, which based its decision on economic indicators such as consumer price index (CPI) growth and gross domestic product (GDP) performance.
The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) forecasted GDP growth of 4.45% and CPI growth of 1.76% for 2025, both of which influenced the committee’s decision.
The wage adjustment still requires approval from the Executive Yuan, Taiwan’s cabinet-level executive branch responsible for implementing national policy, before it can take effect.
Labor Groups Pushed for a Higher Increase
A stronger wage increase had been sought by labor unions, who argued that the approved increase would not adequately address rising living costs.
Unions had proposed a 4% adjustment, which would have raised the minimum monthly wage to NT$29,734 (US$975) and the hourly rate to NT$198 (US$6.49).
Labor representatives also expressed concern that US tariff policies, including a 20% duty on many Taiwanese exports, might have constrained the government’s willingness to approve a larger increase.
This marks the second minimum wage adjustment under President Lai Ching-te, who assumed office in May 2024, following eight consecutive increases during the tenure of former President Tsai Ing-wen.
