Florida’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase from US$13 to US$14 per hour for non-tipped employees on September 30, 2025, as reported by Yahoo News.

The increase is part of a voter-approved plan to gradually raise the state’s minimum wage to US$15 by September 2026, aiming to help workers keep up with rising living costs.

Employers of tipped workers are allowed to apply a tip credit of up to US$3.02, meaning tipped employees currently earn a direct wage of US$9.98 per hour.

The tipped minimum wage is set to increase to US$10.98 on September 30, 2025, and to US$11.98 in 2026.

Certain categories of workers remain exempt from the minimum wage, including farm workers, seasonal employees, commissioned sales staff, and some workers with disabilities.

Employers with annual revenue below US$50,000 are also exempt.

Despite the increase, Florida’s minimum wage still falls below the cost of living in cities like Jacksonville, where a household still needs about US$115,000 annually to live comfortably, according to an analysis.

Florida Minimum Wage Background

Florida established its state minimum wage in 2004 through a voter-approved amendment that set the standard above the federal rate.

Since then, the minimum wage has been adjusted regularly, including significant hikes following the 2020 constitutional amendment.

The state has consistently paid higher than the federal minimum wage of US$7.25, which has remained unchanged since 2009.

Nationwide Minimum Wage Trends

Florida is included among the 21 states where minimum wage increases are being implemented in 2025, with higher rates recorded in states such as Washington at US$16.66 and California at US$16.50.

Wages below the federal minimum are still permitted in certain cases in states including Georgia and Wyoming.

In five US states, including Alabama and Tennessee, no minimum wage laws have been enacted, so the federal standard is applied by default.
