This Review Covers:

What is the Difference Between Toggl Track and Clockify?

Toggl is a cloud-based app that helps individuals and businesses track time, manage projects, improve collaboration among team members, and more.

One of the things that impressed me about Toggl is its intuitive user-friendly interface. Time tracking can be a lot less daunting, which is especially useful for employees who don’t have experience with time trackers. Additionally, Toggl allows users to easily switch between tasks, projects, and clients with just one click. No more guesswork and Excel sheets!

Clockify, meanwhile, offers a simple and user-friendly solution for your project management and time tracking needs. Users will be able to improve their productivity and manage tasks more effectively. They’ll be able to easily keep track of time spent on projects, generate analytical productivity reports, and many more without breaking a sweat.

Clockify is aggressively priced, especially if you consider how many features it offers. It won’t cost you much, but you’ll get a lot of use out of it for free or for a limited spend.

Standout Toggl Features

  • Comprehensive reports
  • Over 100 integrations with project management, invoicing, and calendar apps
  • Versatile time tracking options
  • Customizable time tracking and reporting settings
  • Powerful analytics tool

Standout Clockify Features

  • Exceptional project management capabilities
  • Expense tracking feature
  • Over 80 integrations with project management, invoicing, and calendar apps
  • GPS capability
  • PIN-secured Kiosk feature

What are Toggl and Clockify’s Time Tracking Features?

Toggl

Toggl allows users to automate time tracking based on their use of certain apps. Time tracking will start once users open these apps and stop once the apps are closed.

Users will also be able to go back and manually edit time entries.

Clockify

Clockify can start tracking time once users log into their devices. It also has a kiosk feature, which allows employees to clock in and out of work with the help of a PIN. Because of this feature, Clockify works great as a time tracking and attendance software.

Managers can also allow employees to manually edit their time entries.

How Much Do Toggl and Clockify Cost?

Both are generous with their free time tracking plans, so you get essential time tracking and productivity management features without ever spending a dime. If you need additional features for your business, you’ll get more add-ons the more you spend.

Given the pricing and features, I find that Toggl is a bit overpriced, especially compared to Clockify. Currently, Clockify has more features than Toggl, even though it’s much cheaper. Will you use or need all of Clockify’s features? Maybe not. However, if we’re looking purely at the functions and uses you’ll get for the price, you’ll get more for less with Clockify.

Is Toggl Track Free?

Toggl has a free tier, and you can also sign up for a free trial without having to enter your credit card details. You can take the software out for a spin without getting charged in case you forget to cancel your subscription before the trial ends.

However, Toggl is much more expensive than Clockify. Toggl charges $9 dollars per user each month for its lowest paid tier, and the price only goes up from there.

Is Clockify Free?

Like Toggl, Clockify has a free tier and you can also try it out by signing up for a free trial. You won’t have to enter your credit card details as well.

Clockify charges a much more reasonable $3.99 per user per month for its lowest paid tier if you’re billed annually.

Who are the Target Users of Toggl and Clockify?

Who Uses Toggl Track?

Toggl is a versatile tool that can serve freelancers, remote teams, small businesses, medium-sized businesses, and large enterprises impressively well. Because its free tier is feature-rich, users can get quite a lot of juice out of it without spending a dime. It’s also suitable for a wide range of industries, including marketing, software development, and more.

Though Toggl has a lot to offer, it’s a straightforward time tracker at its core. Thus, if you only need a time tracking app and you don’t need a lot of the bells and whistles, you won’t have trouble with Toggl.

Toggl’s lack of employee monitoring functions is likely also a plus for managers who want an app that can help with time tracking, billing, and project management without the employee surveillance features.

Who Uses Clockify?

Like Toggl, Clockify is also an excellent choice for freelancers and businesses of all sizes. It’s particularly well-suited for hybrid teams that work onsite as well as remotely. Teams can use the kiosk feature when working on-site, and they can use the mobile app when working remotely.

The app also has GPS capabilities, which is another feature that makes it an outstanding choice for teams that have to go from site to site. It can therefore meet your employees’ time tracking needs regardless of where they are.

Unlike Toggl, Clockify does have employee monitoring functions. It’s thus the better choice for managers who want to keep track of their employees’ productivity, and it’s also more useful for teams who need to work at different locations.

How Do Toggl and Clockify Do Time Auditing and Reporting?

Managers can start time entry audits with both Toggl and Clockify. Both apps will flag anything that’s suspicious, such as time entries that don’t have a job description. They will also flag any entries that are too long or too short.

Both Toggl and Clockify can also show you how much time each employee has spent on each task. You’ll also be able to use filters so you can immediately see the data you’re looking for.

Toggl can also automatically send reports on a regular basis, while Clockify’s reports can be shared with higher-ups or clients via a link.

How Do Toggl and Clockify Do Scheduling and Budgeting?

Toggl

Toggl doesn’t have a scheduling feature. However, it allows you to create time budgets or financial budgets as well as track expenses. You can also use reporting tools that can help you see if your projects are within budget and on schedule.

Clockify

Clockify has a project timeline feature as well as a team scheduling feature. Managers will be able to assign tasks to individual employees on a day-to-day basis. You’ll also be able to easily see which teams are scheduled on which blocks of time.

Just like Toggl, you can also use Clockify to create time and financial budgets for your projects. You’ll also be able to see if your project is on track time-wise and money-wise.

Do Toggl and Clockify Have Employee Monitoring?

Toggl

One important thing to note about Toggl is that it’s very decidedly against employee monitoring. It doesn’t have the typical monitoring features, such as screen recording and employee location tracking. This may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you want to manage your team.

Clockify

If you need employee monitoring tools, Clockify is the better choice. It can take screenshots of your employee’s screens, and it also has a GPS feature that allows employees to check in and out of different locations.

How Do Toggl and Clockify Do Payroll and Invoicing?

Toggl integrates with Xero for payroll, while Clockify integrates with Quickbooks. Both apps can also automatically generate timesheets for accountants to use for payroll.

You can also use both apps to automatically generate client invoices. You’ll also be able to create custom invoices whenever necessary.

Are Toggl and Clockify’s User Interfaces Easy?

Toggl

Toggl has a simpler interface compared to Clockify, making it easier to learn and use. It’s also more intuitive.

Clockify

Clockify’s interface, on the other hand, is more complicated and its menu can be a bit convoluted. Users will likely need more time to learn how to use Clockify than Toggl.

So, Which One is Better: Toggl or Clockify?

Overall, Toggl is the winner of the two. This wasn’t an easy choice to make, given that both apps are excellent and have a lot to offer. Clockify can do a lot of things, and its pricing is hard to beat. Compared to Toggl, however, it’s just rough around the edges and its user interface still needs improvement.

Toggl is expensive and might not be a great choice for freelancers or individuals who would rather spend that kind of money elsewhere. However, if you have the budget for it, Toggl is the one.
