What Is an Overtime Calculator?

An overtime calculator helps estimate additional pay earned for working beyond regular hours. Instead of manually calculating overtime, it uses your regular pay rate, working hours, and overtime hours to quickly show the extra amount owed.

This makes it easier to understand total earnings, especially when overtime rates vary depending on weekends, holidays, night shifts, or other working conditions in Argentina.

How Can I Use an Overtime Calculator?

Jibble’s Argentina overtime calculator helps calculate extra pay in just a few steps:

  • Select a pay structure — Choose whether pay is calculated hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly.
  • Enter regular earnings — Add the normal wage or salary used as the basis for overtime calculations.
  • Add standard working hours — Input the usual number of working hours for that pay period.
  • Choose an overtime rate — Select the applicable multiplier, such as 1.5x or 2x, or enter a custom rate.
  • Input overtime hours worked — Add the hours worked beyond the regular schedule.
  • Calculate total overtime pay — Instantly view overtime earnings separately from regular pay.

How Much Is Overtime Pay in Argentina?

Overtime refers to hours worked beyond the legal or agreed working schedule. Argentine labor law sets standard working time at 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week.

Extra hours must be paid at higher rates than regular working hours:

  • 1.5x total pay (50% extra pay) applies to overtime worked on regular working days.
  • 2x total pay (100% extra pay) applies to overtime worked after 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays, as well as on Sundays and public holidays.

Is There an Overtime Limit in Argentina?

Yes. Argentine labor law limits overtime to:

  • 3 overtime hours per day
  • 30 overtime hours per month
  • 200 overtime hours per year

These limits are established under Argentina’s Working Hours Law and Decree 484/2000. In exceptional or emergency situations, employers may require additional overtime beyond these limits.

Can Employers Compensate Overtime With Time Off in Argentina?

Yes. Following Argentina’s 2026 labor reform, employers and employees may agree to compensate certain overtime hours with equivalent time off instead of additional overtime pay through an “hours bank” system.

This system allows extra hours worked to be balanced with future reduced working hours or additional rest time, depending on the agreement between the employer and employee.

However, standard overtime surcharge rates still apply unless both parties agree to this alternative compensation arrangement under the updated labor rules.
