What Is a Work Time Calculator?

A work time calculator simply adds up start times, finish times, and break durations to give you total hours worked.

For businesses in Egypt, this helps streamline payroll, reduce errors, and avoid messy manual spreadsheets.

Who Should Use an Egypt Work Time Calculator?

An Egypt work time calculator is useful for both employers and employees across various industries, including factories and workshops, retail shops and supermarkets, restaurants and cafés, construction sites, and offices or service-based companies. It’s especially helpful for:

  • Planning weekly shifts and schedules
  • Quickly calculating payroll hours
  • Monitoring overtime
  • Streamlining compliance with Egyptian labour laws

How Do You Use a Work Time Calculator?

Using the Jibble Egypt Work Time Calculator is simple. Here are quick steps you can follow:

  1. Enter start and end times – Choose from a 12-hour or 24-hour format, whichever format you prefer.
  2. Add break durations – Enter the length of breaks taken during the shift. Lunch breaks, tea breaks, or short pauses are deducted automatically from total work time.
  3. Choose number of working days – Calculate hours for a single day or multiple days.
  4. Click calculate – View your total work hours in both minutes and decimal format. You’ll also see Clean Work Time, which is your total hours minus any breaks.
  5. Save or share results – Generate a link for quick access and easy sharing with your team.

What are the Working Hours in Egypt?

Under the 2025 Egyptian Labor Law, the standard workweek is 48 hours, with up to 8 hours per day across 6 working days, plus one paid day of rest. Employees must receive at least a one-hour break if working more than 5 consecutive hours, and any work performed between 10 PM and 6 AM counts as night work with extra pay.

Overtime is allowed in exceptional cases with prior notice and must be compensated at rates ranging from 135% to 200% depending on timing and holidays.

Employers must comply strictly with these rules to avoid penalties, while employees have the right to refuse overtime under certain conditions.

How Much Is the Minimum Hourly Pay In Egypt?

As of March 1, 2025, the minimum wage for private-sector workers in Egypt is EGP 7,000 per month. Part-time workers now have a minimum hourly wage of EGP 28.

Employers must also provide an annual raise of at least 3% of the employee’s social insurance wage, with a minimum of EGP 250 per month. This increase follows a series of raises over the past three years, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve wages in the private sector.

Need More Than a Work Time Calculator?

A work time calculator is great for quick, simple calculations, but it can’t handle complex schedules. For teams with different shifts, locations, or rotating hours, you might need:

  • Automatic time tracking
  • GPS-based clock-ins
  • Attendance reports
  • A mobile app for field or site workers
  • Payroll-ready summaries
