Overview
monday.com is a cloud-based platform that offers a wide range of tools to help with project tracking, resource management, and task management.
There are custom dashboards that you can create to monitor projects in real time. You can also add columns to track specific data like task status, deadlines, or who’s responsible for what.
As part of its work management feature, monday.com also lets you track time, although they offer fairly basic functions in this area. If you need to track breaks and overtime you’ll need to configure formulas which can be a hassle.
In addition to work management, monday.com can be also used for portfolio management, customer relations management, and budgeting.
I really appreciate that monday.com can be integrated with several of the most in-demand productivity apps, including Slack, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, and Dropbox. It also allows you to make customized time-saving automations that eliminate repetitive tasks.
All of this is what really makes monday.com great. It’s flexible and adaptable. But the thing is, all these features can easily feel overwhelming, especially if your business doesn’t really need these advanced tools right away.
monday.com’s pricing structure can be a bit restrictive, especially for smaller teams or solo users. The platform charges per seat per month, but you can’t just pay for a single seat – you’re required to purchase a minimum of three seats. This means that even if you only need one or two accounts, you’re still paying for that third seat, which can feel like a waste of money. The free plan allows for up to two seats, but it’s quite limited in terms of features, making it more suitable for very basic projects.
What Do Users Like About monday.com?
- Boards are very customizable
- Lets you automate project tasks
- Simple to set up and use
What Don’t Users Like About monday.com?
- Too expensive
- Interface feels overloaded
- Glitches with the dashboard and calendar view
What Pricing Plans Does monday.com Offer?
monday.com offers five pricing plans – one free plan and four paid plans with different features. All paid plans require at least 3 seats.
Let’s take a closer look at what each plan includes:

It’s great that monday.com has a free plan, but it’s limited to just two seats. The features included are also quite basic, with access to only a few boards and limited column types.
While the free plan is a good way to get familiar with the platform, you won’t have access to advanced features like automations, time tracking, or integrations, which are only available in the paid plans. If you need more functionality or want to collaborate with a larger team, you’ll need to upgrade to one of the paid plans, which start at three seats minimum.
The price tag that comes with the paid plans are also on the more expensive side starting at $12.00 per seat per month. This means even the most basic upgrade will cost you at least $36 per month. For small teams or businesses on a budget, this can add up quickly.
I can honestly think of several time tracking software that are priced more reasonably and offer the same, if not more powerful features (take Clockify and Toggl Track for example).
What are the Standout Features of monday.com?
1. Organization Boards
monday.com provides comprehensive project management tools that can help to plan, track, and execute projects from start to finish. The process involves a ton of boards.
A board on monday.com is a space where users can manage tasks—whether it’s a simple to-do or a complex project with many steps. It’s where teams can work together, share updates, and keep everything organized.
You can talk to teammates about specific tasks using the update section, but if you want to message everyone on the board, you can use the Board Discussions. It’s essentially a virtual bulletin board where all members can see and join the conversation. It’s a great way to share general updates, ask questions, or discuss ideas that aren’t tied to a specific task.
All users can access monday.com’s organizational boards, which are available for both free and premium plans. Businesses can use these boards to organize all the information needed for a project, including docs, clients, processes, and more.
Premium plan users can combine multiple boards into one dashboard for easy access to project data. This lets them easily access all the materials for a project from one place.
While all of these boards do keep projects organized, I think it might be a bit too complex for smaller teams or simpler projects. The multiple boards, columns, and automations can create a lot of moving parts, and there’s a risk of information getting lost or overlooked.

2. Budgeting Templates
Another one of the more interesting features of monday.com are its budgeting templates.
The budget tracking template can be customized according to business needs and is a great way to ensure that companies don’t overspend.
You can use the Formula Column to easily compare your estimated and actual costs. For example, it can automatically display “Within Budget” or “Over Budget” without you having to do the calculations.
You can also set up another formula to show how much budget is left. To make important info stand out, like when you’re over budget, use Conditional Coloring to highlight those labels in red.
It’s all a little complex at first, I have to say. Expect a steep learning curve if you’re new to these types of tools.
Once a budget for a project is set, monday.com will help maintain that budget and avoid going over it. Businesses can set the limits of your budget per project, and they can also set up the software so that it can send you alerts if you exceed these limits.

3. Time Tracking
monday.com lets you track time spent on tasks and projects. You can start and stop the timer with a single click or enter time manually if you forget to log it. The platform also has a mobile app, so you can track time whether you’re at your desk or on the go.
You can assign tasks, set due dates, and track how much time each person spends on a specific project. This way, you always know where time is going and can adjust workloads as needed.
If you need to track breaks or overtime, there’s an option to set up a formula in the time tracking column. However, it requires some manual configuration, as monday.com doesn’t automatically track these by default.
The platform also lets you generate detailed reports to see how time is spent by project, task, or client. monday.com ‘s time tracking is pretty basic and that makes it easy to use.

4. Automations
monday.com uses AI to simplify tasks and make workflows more efficient. With AI-powered WorkForms, you can quickly create custom forms for collecting client feedback, managing requests, or organizing data. Instead of starting from scratch, you can use AI prompts to generate form templates based on your specific needs, saving you time and effort.
You can also use AI to extract information from files, like PDFs or text columns, pulling out key details without manual data entry. If you’re dealing with complex information, AI can summarize it, highlighting the main points and giving you quick, actionable insights.
Additionally, AI can categorize data automatically, organizing it by type, urgency, or sentiment. This helps you sort through large datasets more efficiently and focus on what matters most. With these AI features, monday.com helps you reduce repetitive tasks and streamlining data management.

What’s My Final Verdict on monday.com?
monday.com is indeed an adaptable work and productivity tool that caters to businesses of any size and in any industry.
Its standout features such as the organizational boards, budgeting templates, project management tools, dependency column, and role management ensure tailored and efficient workflows for both startups and established businesses. Moreover, it provides features and integrations that seamlessly merge your current workflows with the platform.
Overall, I think monday.com is an impressive project management software that has a treasure trove of reliable features. It’s best for companies that need to streamline their processes and improve efficiency, but businesses with less complex needs may find the plethora of tools to be overwhelming and unnecessary.
The pricing model also leaves a lot to be desired, especially for smaller companies. If you’re looking for a more cost-effective alternative, try checking out a completely free alternative to monday.com!
