An affordable time tracking and scheduling software with sub-par features and a clunky interface.

As a CEO of a time tracking software company, I need to know what my competitors are up to. That means I’m often researching about and/or playing around with their products… you know, it’s part of the job. Thus, this ezClocker review. Here, I share my findings from that research, giving credit to those competitors where credit is due and being honest about which products I believe you really need to avoid. And so, there you have it, this ezClocker review. And in it, I try to be honest, fair, and insightful.

This Review Covers:

Overview

ezClocker is a time tracking and scheduling software developed by ezNova Technologies LLC. It mainly aims to simplify and optimize time tracking and scheduling processes, allowing businesses to operate more efficiently and effectively. Aside from time tracking and scheduling, the app also offers job assignments, time-off management, and reporting features.

I haven’t really heard about ezClocker until recently. And I was surprised to find out that they’ve been around since 2015 (or possibly even earlier). Being around for that long, I was curious to see what kind of features and innovations this software has had over the years. And, well, I was a bit disappointed.

Given its years in the industry, I expected a bit more in terms of innovation. From the get-go, their website looked outdated and clunky. The occasional performance hiccups during account sign-up didn’t help either, with longer than usual loading times and the site even crashing a couple of times. Once I finally got in, the web app’s interface gave off the same outdated feel as the website. But I didn’t want to be deterred. After all, you shouldn’t fully judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a software by its interface.

Despite the initial letdown, I did find some redeeming qualities with their time tracking feature.  It was very user friendly, and it only took the click of a button to clock in and out. Real-time data on employee attendance, clock-in/out times, and locations is displayed right on the dashboard. While employees can manually add in their time entries, they’ll still need permission from their manager to make changes. This permission-based approach adds a layer of security to the time tracking process.

On the scheduling front, ezClocker offers a straightforward approach, too. You can designate various work locations and assign employees accordingly, with the flexibility to set shift schedules based on these locations. There’s little to no supervision over this feature, though. I tried to assign 80-hour shifts, and it just accepted it, no problem. Sure, it gets the job done, but it doesn’t really safeguard you from scheduling errors. And it most certainly won’t help you with labor law compliance.

Strangely, I couldn’t locate ezClocker on the App Store and the Google App Store despite claims of iOS and Android availability. I’m not sure if there’s currently an issue with their mobile apps or if they discontinued them entirely. But they definitely should update the information on their website.

While ezClocker shows a bit of promise in its time tracking function, it undeniably requires a user interface overhaul, huge updates on its features, and additional features to meet the evolving demands of today’s businesses. There’s substantial room for improvement, but for its affordable price point, starting at $10 per month for up to 15 employees, you do sort of get what you pay for.

What Pricing Plans Does ezClocker Offer?

ezClocker offers a trio of paid plans, each crafted to accommodate a diverse range of business needs and sizes. These plans, namely Basic, Standard, and Premium, ensure that there’s an ideal fit for every organization. But how do you determine which plan aligns perfectly with your requirements? Let’s explore the features and benefits of each plan to help you make an informed choice.

Basic

With the Basic plan, you should get access to both ezClocker’s mobile and web apps, letting you track time from virtually anywhere. There’s also a GPS feature that allows you to share your location, adding an extra layer of accuracy and accountability to your timekeeping. What’s more, you can customize your experience by enabling notifications for clocking in and out, ensuring you never miss a beat.

If you prefer a shared time clock for your job site or office, the ezClocker Kiosk app also comes with the basic plan. This lets you turn your tablet or phone into a shared time clock for all employees to clock in. There is no need to purchase a physical clock device or have employees use their own devices to punch in. Other features you get to enjoy with the basic plan are employee scheduling and exportable reports.

Now for the important question: How much will this cost you? Well, the basic plan starts at $10 per month, catering to teams of up to 15 employees. If you have a larger workforce, the Standard plan might be the better fit for you.

Standard

For $30 per month, the Standard plan can cater to up to 30 employees. It includes all the time tracking features of the basic plan with some added advantages. Unlike the basic plan, which only allows you to export pay periods, the standard plan also lets you export overtime reports as CSV files. This is a great way to keep an eye on overtime hours and stay compliant with labor regulations.

The Standard plan also comes with a Job Assignments feature. This lets you add new jobs and assign them to one, some, or all employees. You can assign employees different pay rates based on their specific tasks.

Aside from these, the Standard plan also lets you access payroll integrations, including popular payroll apps like Paychex, ADP Workforce Now, and Gusto Payroll.

Premium

The Premium plan, priced at $50 per month, is designed to meet the needs of larger businesses. This comprehensive plan offers both web and mobile access, providing flexibility and convenience for tracking time. It has very similar features to that of the Standard plan, only this time with an increased, expanded capacity to accommodate your growing workforce, catering to up to 100 employees.

With the Premium plan, you’ll have access to features like employee scheduling, GPS verification, and the ability to export pay periods to CSV files. This ensures accurate and efficient time management, allowing you to stay organized and in control of your workforce.

Additionally, the Premium plan includes handy tools such as job assignments, overtime reports, and payroll integrations. These features streamline your HR processes, making it easier to manage and compensate your employees.

Time Off Features Package

For those who want to simplify time-off management, ezClocker gives you the option to add the Time Off Features Package to your existing plan for $10 per month.

This add-on offers a range of benefits, including allowing employees to request and monitor paid and unpaid time off while enabling employers/managers to review, approve, or deny such requests. Additionally, approved time off will be integrated into timesheet reports, and time off requests will be visible in the schedule view.

What are the Standout Features of ezClocker?

We’ve touched on some of ezClocker’s features in our overview, shedding light on both its strengths and weaknesses. To provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of this application and whether it aligns with your business needs, let’s dive deeper into its standout features.

Time Tracking

ezClocker has a very simple interface for its time tracking feature. Employees can clock in and out by simply clicking a button. Employers also have the authority to clock in their employees.

The time tracking feature comes with GPS capabilities that log employee locations every time they clock in or out. Click on the globe icon next to each employee’s time entry to access and view this location data on the map. Along with location, everything you need on employee time and attendance data is displayed on the dashboard.

While employees can manually add in their time entries, they’ll still need permission from their manager to make changes. This permission-based approach adds a layer of security to the time tracking process.

Employee Scheduling

The employee scheduling feature on the app is as easy to use as its time tracking feature. With just a few clicks, you can easily make new schedules for a week or month.

To add schedules, you simply need to click on a date on the calendar, select the employee you want to assign it to, the work location, and the shift’s start and end times. After adding them, publish the schedules, and employees are supposed to receive notifications on their phones about their new schedule. The total number of scheduled work hours for the week is totaled on the calendar, making it easy to keep track of.

Timesheet Reports

ezClocker has pretty basic reporting features. You can choose to generate reports for a specific time duration and choose which time format and data grouping you want it to follow. You can also generate reports for one employee or for everyone in your organization.

The timesheet reports cover clock in/out times, total hours worked, and time entry notes. You have the option to export these either as CSV or PDF files for recordkeeping or payroll processing.

What’s My Final Verdict on ezClocker?

ezClocker presents itself as a straightforward solution for time tracking and scheduling needs. They may have missed the mark when it comes to keeping up with modern interface and user experience standards, but they do offer convenient clock-in/out functionality and real-time attendance tracking.

Having tested this software for myself, would I recommend it? Well, this software could potentially suit the needs of new businesses looking to simplify their time-tracking processes without stretching their budget to the limit. However, I hesitate to give it a ringing endorsement. There are other options out there that might offer a more polished experience and more valuable features for a slightly higher price. It all comes down to your specific requirements and priorities as a business owner.
