Bermuda’s minimum wage will increase from $16.40 to $17.13 per hour effective September 1, 2025, as reported by Bernews.

The increase was described as an essential labour protection aimed at strengthening workplace standards and ensuring fair compensation.

This increase will affect more than 2,500 employees in sectors such as beauty, cleaning, hospitality, personal care, and retail, and was approved on the recommendation of the Wage Commission.

The Ministry of Economy and Labour stressed that all employers must comply with the minimum wage, which applies to both full-time and part-time employees without exception.

Failure to comply violates the Employment Minimum Hourly Wage Entitlement Act 2022 and the Employment Minimum Hourly Wage Order 2023.

Scope and Overview of Bermuda Minimum Wage

The adjustment of Bermuda’s minimum wage is aligned with global standards.

The minimum wage is scheduled to be reviewed every two years, with increases capped at 2.5% annually and tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), in accordance with recommendations from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a United Nations agency that sets global labour standards, promotes workers’ rights, and advocates for fair and decent work.

The Ministry of Economy and Labour reaffirmed that Bermuda’s wage policy is tied to inflation and global best practices, ensuring worker protection, business support, and long-term economic resilience.

Broader Implications

The wage policy has been aligned with inflation and international best practices to ensure the protection of workers, support for businesses, and the strengthening of Bermuda’s long-term economic resilience.

This increase also strengthens workplace standards and fair compensation, reflecting a commitment to promoting fairness, dignity, and opportunity across the workforce.
